Archie was raised on his family's farm in Ireland where he worked with broodmares, foals, yearlings and racehorses. During his time at Trinity College Dublin he served on the committee of the University's Horse Racing Society and organized trips to the country's major farms and training centers to educate fellow students on the local thoroughbred industry. During this time he also regularly rode in National Hunt races in England and Ireland and spent a summer in Australia working for the country's leading trainer Ciaran Maher. After completing his degree Archie traveled to Canada to work for dual U.S and Canadian Hall of Fame trainer Roger Attfield where he rode track work at Woodbine and at Payson Park in Florida.
